Please Just Tell Me What You Stand For, I Don’t Care About Your Opinion of Your Opponent

Yes, it’s that time of year again. Elections are right around the corner and political campaigning is in its final and intensive stages. Those of us with TiVo or any other type of DVR are thrilled to be able to fast forward through all of the various political commercials that run rampant. Of course, don’t forget the phone calls and my personal favorite: junk mail.

Actually, it was a piece of junk mail that prompted me to write this. It was labelled “5 Things You May Not Know About Dick Blumenthal”. I have to admit, at first, I thought it was his campaign that was pointing out the good things that he’s done. How naive of me to believe that I actually got a positive piece of campaign mail. It was his opponent bashing him (for those of you who don’t know, Dick Blumenthal is running for a Connecticut seat in the U.S. Senate).

The flyer is on heavy weight, glossy paper. It actually has a decent picture of Mr. Blumenthal smiling and cropped to be placed in front of a picture of the capital. Flip it over and one gets to read about these 5 things. They’re anything but flattering, but I won’t get into the details. If you look in the lower corner, you can see the sources where the information was found. There are 4 sources quotes, 3 of them are from 20 or more years ago.

The Real World Hypes That Divide

With the passage of time many real world hypes are actually the reason for big divisions amongst humans. We have the law divisions, the government divisions, the religion divisions and the biggest of all the gender divisions. Of course are many more divides but these are the ones that come to the fore.

The law divisions make sure that the law of one land is not equal to the law of the other. Are we not just humans who should be having just one law for all? We have a law for each religion. That is another division which only serves in separating people and does nothing to bond them. It is true all are alone in the pursuit of God but that does not mean all live, being disrespectful to others who do not agree with them.

It is the same infinite spark that exists in all beings – so what if the spark has many names. Even a flower is called by different names in different languages. Does the flower lose any of its inherent qualities just because it is called by different names? A flower is the same in English or whatever other language. A flower is natural and not man-made so it is the same in all languages.

Was George Washington Really a Volunteer Fireman?

Historians regularly regard George Washington as the father of our country, serving as our first President and commanding general of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Some sources also indicate he may have been a volunteer fireman and charter member of Alexandria Virginia’s first organized fire company. Is there any truth to this? Here is what was learned visiting the Friendship Fire Museum of Alexandria Virginia.

In August 1774, the Friendship Society, later Fire Company formed in Alexandria Virginia. Alexandria is a colonial era riverside port situated opposite and south of Washington DC. George Washington lived not too distant to the south at his Potomac River plantation Mount Vernon in Fairfax County. Washington is often noted as one of the company founders. He did serve from 1760-1774 as Justice of the Peace at the Fairfax County Courthouse then in Alexandria. Otherwise he was at the time a busy planter involved in Virginia politics and the growing discontent with England. As told, Washington has entries in his diary about attending meetings at the society. The Friendship Society, who knows as there could have been others and his diary does not specify. It is unclear if he was ever a company member of if he ever attended fires.

Is Your Child Safe? 8 Top Reasons Children Disappear

8 TOP REASONS WHY CHILDREN DISAPPEAR

1. The common reasons are Divorce and parental disputes. I realize this happens but it seems so hard to believe there are parents out there who will go to such great lengths. I guess when a child is concerned a parent will do just that. Sometimes parents don’t agree where to live and some will actually take their child and go disappear from the face of the earth and go as far as changing their names and their professions. Their goal is to never be found.

2. The United States of America has been noted for its safety and land of the free. Many people idealize America and want to better their families by coming here. For the longest time we wouldn’t even think about our children being in danger while at school or in our front yard. Times are changing. Just pick up the paper any day and read about a horrible kidnapping situation. It is extremely depressing. People are outraged. Nowhere is our children completely safe.

3. Some children are taken by a family member or a mother’s boyfriend. Many times it is even someone who the child may trust, sadly enough.
